AI and bioinformatics expert joins HLK as partner in Glasgow

We are pleased to announce that Dr Lauris Kemp has joined the firm as a partner in our Chemistry and Life Sciences team in Glasgow.

As an experienced UK and European patent attorney, and previously recognised as a Rising Star by Managing IP, Lauris holds a degree in Immunology and Biochemistry, and followed this with a PhD and post-doctoral position in computational biology.

With a strong background in biology, mathematics and computer technologies, Lauris’ focus will be on assisting our global client base to protect and commercialise their bioinformatics assets with applications in diverse fields such as genomics, proteomics, drug discovery, personalised medicine, food technology, immunobiology and microbiome research. Lauris’ expertise also serves to bolster our existing experienced team of AI experts as the use of AI in life sciences burgeons. Lauris has significant experience in these areas, including drafting and prosecuting, as well as an enviable record at EPO opposition, and specialist knowledge of trade secret protection.
