About Alex

Alex is a Partner in our Chemistry and Life Sciences team and co-leads our cross-disciplinary Materials group. Recognised in The Legal 500 for his strong expertise in European patent oppositions and his deep understanding of complex chemistry, Alex has over two decades of industry experience, over 10 years of which has been as a Partner. His technical strengths include food science innovations, particle and filtration technologies, prosthetic materials and electrochemistry. Indeed, with few patent attorneys having a deep knowledge of electrochemistry, a number of clients have sought him out for his rare skills in this area.

With an unwavering commitment to providing a high level of service, Alex works with a diverse portfolio of clients, from multinational corporations and prestigious universities to innovative start-ups, delivering tailored IP strategies that support their business goals. His broad expertise covers all aspects of patent law, from drafting applications to European oppositions, appeals, and freedom-to-operate opinions. Indeed, Alex frequently gives talks about developments in European patent law, particularly on oppositions and appeals, and IP related to chemistry and materials science.

Alex holds a first-class honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford. He speaks German at a conversational level, which helps him enjoy the delights of Munich when he visits the EPO and our office there.
