Will specialises in obtaining, managing and advising on patent portfolios in the fields of electronics and semiconductor device and fabrication technologies. He has specific technical expertise in the areas of analogue, digital and mixed signal electronics, chip design, semiconductor device design (PVs, FETs, BJTs, LEDs and MEMS) and fabrication (PVD, CVD, thin film deposition, lithography, packaging and metrology). Will is well regarded for his strong client focused approach, ensuring the highest level of understanding of his clients’ business and aims. He works with large corporates and SMEs, as well as universities and research institutions.
Michael Ford
UK and European Patent Attorney | UPC Representative
Michael is the co-leader of our Materials Science team. He works with patent applications across the whole spectrum of materials. He has particular experience in drafting and prosecuting applications relating to metals and alloys, minerals, semiconductor devices and fabrication methods (including deposition processes such as PVD and CVD), diamond carbon, battery materials, composite materials, 3D printing, and materials characterisation methods. He also advises on freedom-to-operate and has experience of EPO opposition proceedings. Michael has a special interest in the use of computer modelling in the development of new materials and carried out research in this area at the University of Oxford, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the University of California, Santa Barbara.
David Lewin
UK and European Patent Attorney | UPC Representative
David is valued by multinationals and SMEs alike for his extensive experience in mixed-signal electronics and electronics systems, allowing him to distil high-quality patent applications from meetings and conversations. He has particular experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the fields of high-speed digital-to-analogue and analogue-to-digital conversion, low-noise chip packages, haptics, audio systems and inductive charging.
Magnus Johnston
UK and European Patent Attorney
Magnus works with many multinational corporations, including major energy companies, large steel producers, smart glass fabricators, 3D metal additive printing technologists and speciality mineral producers, all of whom value Magnus’ years of experience in the patent profession and his deep knowledge of their technologies. He has a BSc in Chemistry with New Materials Technology and a PhD in the synthesis of novel acentric open-framework crystalline materials containing transition metals. Magnus has a considerable case load of European oppositions and appeals, helping clients defend key patents in their portfolio and also helping them challenge the validity of competitors’ patents.
Harriet Crawford
UK and European Patent Attorney | UPC Representative
Harriet joined the patent profession in 2013, qualifying as a European patent attorney in 2018 and as a UK patent attorney in 2020.
Harriet’s work has covered the full life cycle of patents, from discussing new ideas with inventors through to challenging and defending patents post-grant. She has a particular focus on EPO oppositions and appeals and has advised clients on both defending and opposing patents, including representing multiple parties at oral proceedings. With her materials science background, Harriet covers a broad range of technologies in her patents work, including polymers, semiconductors, minerals and metallurgy, construction materials, industrial processes, FMCG, general chemistry and pharmaceutical formulations.
Owen Green
