About Lucy

Lucy is passionate about innovation and utilising engineering to achieve a more sustainable future. She enjoys applying her knowledge to a broad range of technologies and assisting clients with obtaining the best IP protection for their inventions.

Lucy joined the Engineering team at HLK in 2024 after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a First-Class honours MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering. As part of her degree, she undertook a 13-month industrial placement working as a battery mechanical design and simulation intern at the BMW Group. This developed her knowledge of battery pack design, simulation and testing procedures particularly related to research and pre-development projects.

In addition to battery technologies, Lucy also has experience related to hydrogen fuel cell technologies, completing a summer research project working as part of the University of Sheffield’s Energy 2050 group. This project focused on CFD modelling of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cells, the results of which she presented at the International Conference of Undergraduate Research.

Over the course of her degree, Lucy covered a wide range of topics including advanced dynamics, materials, finite element analysis, aero propulsion and renewable energy systems. For her final year project, Lucy investigated the dynamics and acoustics of aerial drones with a specific focus on blade design methods to reduce noise using computational and experimental methods. This gave her experience in aeroacoustic simulation, signal processing and additive manufacturing.

Whilst at HLK, Lucy has enjoyed building her knowledge of patents, gaining experience in drafting and prosecution of UK and European patent applications covering an extensive range of innovative technologies.
