We’re delighted that a number of our trainee patent attorneys at HLK who’d recently taken their Foundation Certificate Examinations have been awarded prizes by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) for receiving the highest marks!
Congratulations to Oliver Rigg for winning the Keith Farewell Prize for securing the highest mark in the FC5 Trade Mark Law Examination, as well as to Thomas Cox and James Cosgrove for their win of the Mike Higgins Prize for attaining the highest mark in the FC4 Design and Copyright Examination.
CIPA awards four prizes to the candidates achieving outstanding results in their exams. We are proud that our cohort sitting the exams were awarded two of the prizes on offer.
This exam success is partly down to HLK’s excellent training programme, the HLK Academy, which has seen trainees go through 90 Foundation exams and pass 88 of them. Of course, no credit can be taken away from the individuals who work extremely hard to achieve these results.
Jack Whitfield, Senior Associate and co-chair of HLK Academy, had this to say:
“We were delighted to hear that three of our trainee patent attorneys were awarded prestigious prizes in this year’s UK qualifying examinations. At HLK, we take pride in our HLK Academy training scheme, which provides extensive support to trainees during the early stages of their careers. HLK Academy sets them up to not only excel at what are notoriously difficult examinations, but also develop into extremely capable attorneys able to offer the best possible service to our clients.
Huge congratulations to Oliver, Thomas and James and the rest of this year’s exam-sitters – we look forward to seeing the development of your exciting careers!”
To become a qualified UK patent attorney, you normally sit five exams about one year into your training, called the Foundation Certificate Examinations, and four exams about three years into your training, the Final Diploma Examinations).
