About Rachel

Since joining HLK, Rachel has worked with a range of clients, including large multinational companies and universities, in a range of chemical and life sciences fields. Although the majority of her current workload relates to speciality chemicals, such as printing inks and nanomaterials, Rachel equally enjoys drafting and prosecuting patents in other areas of chemistry, whether it is pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals or electrochemistry.

The additional intellectual challenge of a less familiar field, brings additional satisfaction whilst still requiring the same techniques.

With experience of patent drafting, patent prosecution, and freedom-to-operate opinions, Rachel is currently further developing these skills, whilst also working with more senior colleagues to gain experience of oppositions and appeals. With a keen interest in all areas of chemistry and life sciences, Rachel is always interested to discover the next invention to cross her desk.

Rachel qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2018. She joined HLK LLP in September 2014 after completing her MSc in Management of Intellectual Property Law. Prior to her MSc, Rachel was an Associate Editor for a chemical journal, where she worked on articles relating to a broad range of areas of chemistry, from medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis to electrochemistry and physical chemistry, and developed useful skills in linguistic gymnastics.
