About Monique

Monique combines technical depth with pragmatic, commercially focused judgement. Her prize-winning academic performance in both her undergraduate degree and patent attorney examinations underpin an international IP career built on sharp, commercially driven IP strategy in deep technologies. She collaborates closely with engineering, research, and leadership teams to build focussed IP strategies that convert advanced technologies into long-term commercial advantage.

Monique began her career at HLK, drafting and prosecuting patents relating to telecommunications, medical imaging and biometrics, with a particular focus on standard-essential patents. When she moved to a leading IP firm in Canada, she continued her focus on telecommunications whilst also navigating the challenges facing patent applications for software-implemented inventions in the US for a multinational SaaS company.

Monique’s next move to a rapidly scaling quantum computing start-up has become a defining part of her perspective. As well as giving her direct responsibility for building a patent portfolio spanning nanophotonics, cryogenics, control systems for quantum hardware, error correction, and quantum algorithms, her in-house role taught her how to shape an IP strategy around commercial objectives. Monique transformed the company’s IP position by rapidly growing the patent portfolio, halving the time from idea submission to filing, and strengthening confidential information governance. This work underpinned a >100 million USD investment round, during which she presented her clear, commercially grounded IP strategy to investors.
