About Lauris

Lauris has a degree in immunology and biochemistry as well as a PhD in computational biology using protein crystallography for anti-malarial drug discovery. Following her PhD she worked for 5 years at the University of Cambridge using computational biology for cancer drug discovery. She has lab bench experience of cell culture, chromatography, mass spectrometry and various types of in silico protein structure determination.

As a result of this extensive computing and biology background, Lauris has focused on helping companies and universities protect their valuable bioinformatics inventions. She has worked for large pharma companies, US and UK biotech companies as well as leading UK universities, including the UK’s AI centre: the Alan Turing Institute.

She has vast experience drafting and prosecuting bioinformatics applications where the cleverness lies in the mathematics or the computing including AI, in areas such as: DNA sequencing; mass spectrometry; cancer diagnostics and microbiome diagnostics.

As well as drafting and prosecuting bioinformatics applications, she has experience of the full life cycle of these patents having also defended and attacked bioinformatics patents for her clients in EPO oppositions and using third party observations in areas including drug discovery and single cell sequencing.

Lauris is also a specialist in trade secret protection and as a result provides practical protection for companies with bioinformatics assets, putting in a range of practical IP to allow these companies to best position themselves commercially.
