About Kate

Kate is an Associate in the Engineering team. She joined the firm in 2025 and has been in the profession since 2016. Her practice focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications worldwide, advising on freedom to operate and infringement matters, and handling oppositions at the European Patent Office.

Kate particularly enjoys being involved with clients’ journeys from the outset of the product lifecycle, working closely with inventors to identify patentable inventions. She finds it highly rewarding to guide innovations from these early stages through the complexities of the global patent landscape, always keeping longterm commercial goals in view.

Kate has a varied technical foundation, holding a PhD in Physics, an MSc in Polymer Engineering, and a BEng in Biomechanical Engineering. Her doctoral research focused on selfassembling nanomaterials with piezoelectric properties and their characterisation using functional atomic force microscopy. This background led to a special interest in nanomaterials, nanoelectronics, and their intersection with medical technology. Throughout her career, Kate has handled patent applications across diverse fields, including automotive, aerospace, medical devices, oil and gas, energy storage, and display devices.

Kate leverages her broad technical expertise and extensive professional experience to provide tailored advice to clients ranging from earlystage startups to multinational corporations.
