On 23 February 2023, Li Min (Ellie), HLK’s China Chief Representative, was invited to be the main speaker in “The Unified Patent Court and Unitary Patent are Almost Here – Steps Patent Owners Should Take Now” seminar which was organised by Guangdong Province IP Protection Centre, Guangdong Overseas IP Dispute Guide Centre, and Guangdong Overseas IP Protection Association. The seminar was attended by around 20 IP attorneys both in-house counsels and from IP firms.
Li Min provided an introduction to the UP and UPC, explored what patentees and applicants need to consider and what actions need to be taken now and whether to validate as a UP or opt-out of the system. Li Min met attendees questions with advice tailored to individual company situations. Feedback received from the seminar was highly positive with attendees commenting that they learned a lot from the session.
