As a member of the Electronics and Communications team at Haseltine Lake Kempner, the focus of Kirwin's work is the filing and prosecution of patent applications in the fields of mobile telecommunications and network communications including cellular and internet protocols, electric and hybrid automotive electronics, graphics processing, medical devices (particularly in the field of medical imaging techniques), and aerospace engineering.
Kirwin’s clients range from start-ups to large multinational corporations and universities. She has significant experience in working directly with inventors to identify patentable features of their research and drafting new patent applications, as well as in coordinating the prosecution and management of complex international patent portfolios in a variety of technical areas. Her practice also covers due diligence and freedom to operate searches.
Being fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, Kirwin frequently visits China and other parts of Asia to visit our clients and to speak at IP-focussed conferences. She has also authored a number of articles on the topic of intellectual property practice and court decisions in Asia. As a core member of Haseltine Lake Kempner's Asia group, Kirwin regularly helps organise delegation visits and roundtable discussions to build and promote professional and business relationships between China and the UK. She is always happy to communicate with clients in Chinese.
Kirwin joined Haseltine Lake Kempner 2017 having previously worked as a patent attorney in another leading intellectual property firm. She qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2015 and as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2016.
Outside of work, Kirwin enjoys visiting art galleries.
