Jonathon obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Leeds and went on to achieve a PhD while working as a part of the Centre for Stem Cell Biology team at the University of Sheffield. His PhD was focused on understanding the mechanisms behind lineage bias and fate determination of human embryonic stem cells. During his PhD Jonathon was a part of a multi-national, collaborative project that was focused on developing therapies for muscles, bone and cartilage using stem cells. It was during this project that he first gained exposure to commercialisation of research and the challenge that comes from protecting new inventions which inspired a transition into the IP sector on completion of his PhD.
Following his studies Jonathan has had exposure to different roles within the IP sector, and since training as a patent attorney, he has gained experience in patent filing and prosecution across a wide range of technology areas including within the life sciences, chemistry and engineering.
