Jo is a patent attorney in the Chemistry and Life Sciences team, specialising in biotechnology. She enjoys working on a diverse range of technologies including diagnostic tests, antibodies, gene editing tools, stem cell technologies, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and green technologies. Jo has experience in drafting, prosecution, and opposition, and handles global patent portfolios. She works with a variety of clients, from start-ups and universities to large pharmaceutical companies, and tailors her advice to the commercial needs of each individual client.
Jo joined Haseltine Lake Kempner in 2018, having previously trained at another large London firm of patent attorneys.
Jo has a BSc in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Warwick and a PhD in Molecular Virology from University College London. Her doctoral research focussed on elucidating the nuclear entry mechanism of HIV-1 and involved working as part of a large, multidisciplinary team to develop small molecule inhibitors of that mechanism. As a result of her primary research experience, Jo is able to become familiar with new technologies quickly.
