Going from strength to strength: New addition joins HLK’s Legal and Trade Mark team in Munich

HLK is delighted to welcome Roland Weede, to its Legal and Trade Mark team.

Roland joins our Munich office with around 20 years’ experience at the highest level at international law firms in Germany and Japan. He brings with him extensive experience in commercial and intellectual property law, with a focus on trade marks.

A great addition to the team, Roland has worked with an array of clients from start-ups to multinational corporations in industries such as media, automotive and pharmaceutical, in a wide range of trade mark, design and domain matters, offering both contentious and non-contentious legal services. Roland has accumulated considerable knowledge representing his clients’ interests at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office and the EU Intellectual Property Office as well as litigating cases before the German civil courts, the German Federal Patent Court and the General Court of the European Union.

Working in tandem with Thomas Grimm (pictured on the left alongside Alexandra Irlacher, Senior Trade Mark and Design Administrator), Roland will deepen our EU and German trade mark, legal and litigation capability. This appointment bolsters our European presence which has been continuous since the opening of the Munich office over 45 years ago, when the European Patent Office first opened.

Since 2023, our Trade Mark and Legal team has grown exponentially with the addition of key personnel including Jamie Rowlands, Louise Perkin, Angharad Rolfe Johnson, Bosé Animasaun, James Simpson, Courtney Walker, Kenan Hamarsheh, Paulina Kasprzak and Antonia Nita. This growth further strengthens the legal services offering and affirms the passion the firm’s talented professionals possess for understanding a client’s business and providing commercially sound and cost-effective advice focussed on results.

Jason Dainty, Partner at HLK, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Roland to our Munich office. He’s a highly skilled and experienced IP practitioner, relied on by businesses and lawyers around the world. He and Thomas Grimm, along with Alexandra Irlacher our trade marks formalities lead in Munich, will make a great team, looking after the German and European trade mark and IP needs of HLK’s diverse and international client base. Our clients rely on our cross border and European capability expertise and so, in the post-Brexit world, our colleagues in Munich have never been more critical to our success.”
